Congressman Don Davis recognized Gaston Fire & Rescue's cadets in a public message on Tuesday, August 18, following their visit to his Rocky Mount district office.
Congressman Davis praised young people who choose a life of service and thanked the mentors helping prepare them to become community leaders. His message recognized both the cadets' commitment and the time department members invest in guiding them.
The recognition followed an August 14 trip that took the cadets to the South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo in Raleigh. There, they explored fire apparatus, equipment, tools, and technology while meeting fire and public safety professionals from across the region.
On the way home, the group stopped at Congressman Davis' district office in Rocky Mount. Staff welcomed the cadets, showed them around, and explained the work of Congress and the many ways public servants can make a difference in their communities.
The visit connected lessons from the firehouse with a broader view of public service. Gaston's Cadet Program helps young people build practical fire and rescue skills while learning teamwork, responsibility, communication, and leadership.
Gaston Fire & Rescue thanks Congressman Davis for recognizing the cadets, his district office staff for welcoming them, and the advisors and mentors who continue to invest in their future.

“Young people who choose a life of service give us all reason to be hopeful about the future.”
