Volunteer fire response for structure fires, vehicle fires, brush fires, alarm activations, and mutual aid calls in Gaston and nearby Northampton County communities.
Gaston Fire & Rescue has been protecting lives and property in Gaston, NC and the surrounding Northampton County area since 1955. As an all-volunteer department, our members respond when a fire, alarm, smoke report, or related emergency puts neighbors at risk.
Fire suppression covers more than one type of call. Crews may be dispatched for a house fire, vehicle fire, brush or woods fire, outside fire, fire alarm, smoke in a building, electrical hazard, or another incident where fire conditions need to be checked and controlled. Each response is handled through 911 dispatch and incident command so crews can size up the scene, protect life first, and keep the incident from spreading.
Fire response starts in Gaston and the nearby communities served by the department.
Larger incidents may bring neighboring departments together so enough apparatus, water, and personnel are on scene.
Members live and work in the community they serve, responding when the emergency tone drops.
At a working fire, the first priority is life safety. Crews check for occupants, control hazards, stretch hose lines, establish water supply, protect exposures, and work to stop the fire as quickly and safely as possible. On smaller calls, the work may be investigation, ventilation, overhaul, or making sure the hazard is fully controlled before the scene is cleared.
Fire departments also spend time preparing before the emergency happens. Apparatus checks, gear care, water-supply planning, and regular training all support safer fireground operations. That preparation matters because volunteer crews must be ready to move from everyday life into emergency response without delay.
For any active fire, smoke condition, smell of gas, electrical hazard, or alarm activation, call 911. Dispatchers can send the correct resources and keep responders updated while they are en route.
