Missing Jet Ski Operator Found Safe on Roanoke Rapids Lake
A missing jet ski operator was found unharmed on Roanoke Rapids Lake on Wednesday, September 16, after her watercraft broke down about a mile from the 5th Street Boat Landing.
Just before 5:00 p.m., the Halifax County Sheriff's Office requested Gaston Fire & Rescue's assistance. The woman had been testing a jet ski and had not returned to the landing after approximately 45 minutes.
Gaston crews deployed a water rescue team, and North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission personnel launched a watercraft to assist with the search.
The woman was located still aboard the disabled jet ski. Another jet skier had reached her shortly before rescuers arrived in the area and was able to tow her and the watercraft safely back to the landing.
