Neighbors protecting neighbors since 1955 — an all-volunteer department built on community, commitment, and service.
Gaston Fire & Rescue was founded in 1955 by residents of Gaston, NC who recognized their community needed organized fire protection. For over 70 years, our all-volunteer members have answered the call — protecting homes, businesses, and lives across our fire district and throughout Northampton County.
Gaston Fire & Rescue exists to protect the people and places we call home. As all-volunteer members of this community, we respond to fires, accidents, and emergencies — because when our neighbors need help, showing up is what we do.
Today the department operates two fire stations and maintains a fleet of specialized apparatus for fire suppression, water rescue, extrication, rope rescue, and public safety diving. Our members hold certifications across every discipline we respond to, with ongoing training to meet evolving standards and community needs.
From structure fires to underwater recovery, our teams are trained and equipped for the full spectrum of emergency response.
All Gaston Fire & Rescue members complete Firefighter I & II certification through the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal. Specialty teams hold additional certifications in swift water rescue, surface water operations, NFPA rope rescue, vehicle extrication, and public safety diving.
Members participate in regular in-house drills as well as regional and state-level training exercises. The department maintains mutual aid agreements with surrounding counties and assists with special operations assignments across North Carolina.
